About

Full Name: Robin Miriam Carlsson
Born: June 12, 1979 Stockholm, Sweden

History

Robyn was discovered at the tender age of 12, after recording the theme song for Swedish TV show, Lilla Sportspegeln, and singing her first self-written song for Söndagsöppet. With the help of Swedish singer, Meja, Robyn signed to Ricochet Records in Sweden, which let her collaborate with producers like Max Martin and Denniz Pop.

At age 16, Robyn released her first album titled “Robyn is Here” under RCA Records. She reached US hit status in 1997 with “Show me Love” on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 1999, Robyn released her second album titled “My Truth”. With the single “Electric” the album landed on #2 at the Swedish music charts.

In 2002, “Don’t Stop the Music” was released under Jive Records, but unhappy with her management Robyn terminated her contract to start her own label.

Konichiwa Records was formed. Robyn released new material including “Be Mine”, “Who’s that girl?” and “Handle Me”. The self-titled album gained great recognition and received three Swedish Grammy awards for Best Album, Best Writer (with Klas Åhlund) and Best Pop Female.

In late 2006, Robyn focused on international releases, including The Rakomonie EP, which dropped in the United Kingdom, and the re-release of “Robyn” with edited and new songs. The new tracks included “With Every Heartbeat” and “Cobrastyle”.

The year 2008 is looking grand for Robyn in US. Konichiwa Records signed an international licensing deal with Universal Music Group, and under Cherrytree Records “The Rakomonie EP” was released in January 2008. Robyn’s vocals are also featured on Snoop Dogg’s “Sexual Eruption” remix, now available in US stores.
